Learn how to build your own maple skateboard deck using wood veneer, a vacuum press, and a whoooole lotta glue. In this class, you'll learn the process of vacuum-press bent wood lamination by building your own mini-cruiser skateboard deck. On day one, you'll work as a team to glue up your veneer stack on pre-made forms in a vacuum bag. Overnight, your lamination will dry as atmospheric pressure holds the wood to the form. On day two, you'll remove your now-solid deck from the vacuum press, shape and sand the edges and faces of your custom deck, and drill truck holes (if you bring your own trucks). All supplies and tools for making your skateboard deck are supplied. Trucks, wheels, nuts/bolts, and bearings are not included. Bring your own trucks for drilling truck holes. This class is designed for one student, 10 years and up, and one accompanying adult (Mom, Dad, Grandma etc.). Space is limited to six groups so sign up early! No experience necessary.
