In this five-day workshop we will illustrate a design in glass using introductory techniques of flame working and kiln casting. We will begin with drawings. The focus will be capturing a memory, portrait, scene, or landscape. The casting will function as a backdrop and flame worked elements will set the stage and allow us to incorporate delicate details. Once a design is drawn out, students will use water clay to make a relief. The finished clay will then be covered in plaster. The clay is then removed and the plaster mold is loaded into a kiln and filled with glass. While the mold is firing, students will create the flame worked elements in the torch. Once the mold cools, the plaster is removed and the flame worked elements are attached to the casting. Only life experience is necessary and a desire to learn and combine elements using multiple techniques.
