Instructor: Aaron Hammer

In this five day woodturning class, professional woodturner Aaron Hammer from Hilo Hawaii will share his passion for teaching students the ancient craft of working with wood on the lathe. No previous wood-turning experience is necessary. The class will focus on lathe safety, faceplate and between-center turning, chucks, turning tools, wood selection, isolating the piece with the chainsaw and using the bandsaw to prepare the blanks for the lathe. The five-day class will be divided into two parts. The first focussing on between-center work and the second focusing on rough bowl turning and the green-wood turning process. All steps and procedures will be demonstrated to the students first. Students will learn the basic cuts and then work towards designing and completing finished projects which may include; carving mallets, bottle stoppers, votive candles, corkscrews, door stops, plates, platters and bowls.
