Just in time for hot weather, learn how to design and craft a classic all-leather sandal that will last you a lifetime! The sandals will be made of vegetable-tanned leather, and you will be able choose style, strap type and color, buckles, and soling. Led by Santa Fe shoemaker Jessica Brommer of Hope & Industry Handmade Shoes (hopeandindustry.com) this workshop will cover every step in the sandal-making process, from tracing your feet for size, creating and determining strap placement based on your design and bone structure, through construction and finishing. We’ll begin with an hour or so of design and concept orientation and conclude with information on sourcing tools and materials. All demos will be completed in the first three days; Monday is an optional day during which you may continue to work on your sandals in the studio. Students will have ample time and materials to complete one pair and some may be able to start a second. Prerequisite: none.
