Instructor: Dmitri Carter
Create your very own hand-carved wooden marionette with help from Dmitri Carter. Dmitri is a founding member of Northwest Puppet Center/Carter Family Marionettes. He has traveled the globe performing and learning about various puppet traditions. Now you have the chance to learn some of the trade secrets of the puppet world. Through this class, you will learn how to build a marionette including different styles of articulated limbs and the methods to control your character. Starting with a block of wood, students will plan their character, carve, assemble the figure, articulate the moving parts and attach controls. This class will focus on carving by hand (not with power tools). Previous experience helpful but not necessary, even beginners are welcome. Just bring your creativity and learn to bring your own character to life as a marionette.
