Instructor: Ed Archie. NoiseCat

Carve a Salish Housepost with Ed Archie NoiseCat. In this class you'll learn how to design and carve a large scale monumental carving. You'll be working on a 2'-4' wet alder log. Ed will teach how to hand carve with traditional tools as well as some power tools. Lots of focus will be given to using a gutter adze (it is advised that you take the tool making class Ed teaches.) Plus chisel and mallet, hook knives, and gouges. Ed's work is inspired by the stories that comprise his life - the people, tricksters, tragedies, and triumphs of the Indigenous experience. Come with some ideas for your Salish Housepost as this class will jump right in on Day #1. ***Plan to spend class time outdoors as often as possible. *** This class will skip the week of Thanksgiving. *** This class will meet in the Youth Studio when inside.***
