Instructor: Jason Thigpen

Learn the differences between various types of leather and their applications and techniques of securing leather, including different types of hand stitching techniques and the use of mechanical fasteners (rivets, etc.) Learn how to wet mould leather, including form building and leather prep. Learn basic leather finishing techniques and application. Experiment with various techniques and ideas for implementing leatherwork into furniture making. Jason Thigpen from Texas Heritage Woodworks is well respected for his leather working skills and is excited to teach a 4 day intensive. Sarah Thigpen will be assisting with the class. There will be time to work on personal projects to implement the steps taught. This could include the leatherwork for a roorkee stool (look for an upcoming roorkee stool class sometime in the winter,) wet moulds or sheaths for your tools, or other ideas that you come up with.
