Wondering how to add the warmth and richness of gold to your jewelry designs? Fusing may be the answer! Fusing allows you to bond precious metals using just heat and pressure--no soldering needed. The gold used can be quite thin, meaning more impact for less investment. This course will introduce surface embellishment by fusing high karat gold over fine silver to students of all experience levels. Learn the basics, then explore additional surface considerations such as finish, texture, and patina that will complement your own designs. Students will take inspiration from historic and contemporary gold fusing examples, and produce a piece of jewelry or small object. Prerequisite: comfort working with torches. NOTE: The supply fee charged upon registration includes tools and fine silver. Students may either bring their own gold foil (shopping information provided upon registration) or purchse foil ($60 per gram; one square inch is approximately a half-gram) from the instructor during the workshop.
