Did you ever wonder how Bonnard, Manet, or Cezanne handled their oil paint? You can learn a lot by imitating the paint application of the masters. Some used layers of dry paint, some had directional strokes, and some had lush wet strokes. Unlike the older masters who used layers of glazes over monotone underpaintings, the Moderns each had an individual method that you can experience yourself. When you understand how the paintings were made you gain insight into the vision of the unique person who created them. Plus with some historical context you will realize how innovative and daring they were. In this workshop we will work with oil paint on three canvases to reproduce a section of a painting from each of the artists listed above. When you are done you will be able to go to museums and get a feeling for what went into the painting you are observing. You will also develop approaches to try in your own paintings. Bring your own brushes if you have them. ALL SUPPLIES PROVIDED. Prerequisite: none  Offsite at NEW Miller School of Art in Highland Park
