The digital youth sculpture program is designed to give students a broad introduction to metalworking theory and modern application through the lens of historical context and unconventional materials. Students will gain knowledge of the tools available in Pratt’s blacksmithing and welding studios as well as the skills to use them while being presented with the historical context from which these techniques emerge. Then, using tools commonly found in the home or easily acquired at the hardware store, we will create projects that explore the use of blacksmithing and fabrication techniques with unconventional materials.
Project Examples: Mask, box, picture frame, fabrication model, small sculpture, hanging wall panel, costume component, whatever you can conceive
This class will be taught online through Microsoft Teams (free software). Please download from this website after you register here and you will receive a link for the specific class before it begins. Materials will still be provided (included in cost) and we will email you time slots of when pick up is available at Pratt.
