Instructor: Jeanne Marie Ferraro

In this intermediate painting class, we will learn basic techniques of painting with a concentration on composition, color, and brush techniques. Each week we will look at a different artist's work from European to American and talk about their techniques, aesthetic, and color pallet. Demos will be given on how the works were composed and created. Using this knowledge, you will create your own paintings using the influence of the artist of the week. For example, if we look at Van Gogh's thick brushwork and vivid color, you will make a painting using that pallet and thick brushwork. If we explore the paintings of Jacob Lawrence, we will talk of his smooth surface and use of primary colors, then using objects around your home, you will make your own work. This online class will consist of 3 parts, video demos, and downloadable materials, group meetings with the whole class, and "office hours" in which the student can have individuals talk with the teacher. Prerequisite: None This class has a series of demo videos available to students during each week before the check in live sessions and is hosted by MS Teams. This class has a supply list link to purchase which will come with your registration confirmation.
