This online workshop focuses on chemical methods for adding imagery, text, or patterns to sheet steel or steel objects; the techniques introduced are safe and appropriate for home use. Through discussion, demonstration, and hands-on work time, students will learn how to create and apply a variety of resists to mild steel and etch using either a copper sulphate solution or saltwater with a rectifier. Students will work with the method of their choice, but the instructor will demonstrate both etching processes and explain the pros and cons of each method. Prerequisite: none.
*Students will need to provide their own supplies and tools (shopping list provided upon registration). The minimum price for required materials is around $30.
