Instructor: David Lutrick

This is a one session online class that will teach woodturners how to make a "nest" from a section of birch burl and make some wooden "eggs" to go in the "nest". The goal of the class is to teach students to use live edge segments with bark and to improve their spindle making skills. The instructor, David Lutrick, has years helping new and experienced turners improve their skills. He now wants to share the magic of turning with online students. Students will learn how to mount the burl segment on the lathe, hollow it and flatten the bottom to make the "nest". The eggs will be turned as segments on a spindle, with an objective to make them as identical as possible while improving skew chisel skills. Class time will rotate between 10-15 minutes of live demos and students doing work on their lathes. Plan to have a place to put your laptop/phone to film yourself on the lathe as your instructor will offer feedback as you work. Students are welcome to ask questions as they come up. The class will be maxed at 6 people to allow for quality feedback during everyone's turning time. Prerequisite: Beginning Woodturning. Students must provide their own lathe and tools. The burl segments and wood for the eggs will be supplied. The Supply Kit pick up is Jan 17 from 1-3 pm. Wear a mask. This class will be hosted on Microsoft Teams, the class will be recorded, students will have access to the class for 48 hours after the class ends. A full supply list will be emailed. Enrollment deadline is 8 days prior to class start.
