Now that you have carved a few spoons and have the fundamentals down. You will start looking at the details a bit more closely. In this class Tom Henscheid will demonstrate variations on spoon bowl design, handle types, handle to bowl transitions, and special knife cuts. With the spoon blanks that are supplied Tom will coach you through making a cooking spoon, a small eating spoon and a round bowl ladle. This class will be two 90-minute sessions. The first week will be primarily demonstrations of his cutting techniques. The second session will be your chance to ask questions and show what you have discovered. The tools you will need for the class are a basic spoon kit: a straight knife, a hook knife. But after the demonstrations you will be wanting to add a coarse rasp and possibly a bent carving gouge. Tom will make a supply kit with three spoon blanks and extra wood chunks to test your cutting techniques. This online class is hosted on Microsoft Teams and will max out with 7 students with the purpose of having lots of time to interact with Tom. The class will be recorded, students will have access to the class for 48 hours after the class ends. No Prerequisite. Kits are available for local pick up only (no shipping). If you don't live in the area, consider it a donation. Students must supply their own tools; a full supply list with instructions will be emailed. The supply kit pick up is Sun, March 14 from 1-3 pm. Kit pick up will have limited human interaction, wear a mask. Enrollment deadline is 8 days prior to class start.
