Learn how to prepare the wood needed for woodworking projects using only hand tools through this online class. The class covers in detail: wood and its characteristics, as well as hand tools and their uses and care including sharpening planes, chisels and saws. The second half of the class is focused on dimensioning wood by hand tools. This is part 1 of 3 in a hand tool series taught by Israel. Classes in this series can be taken in any order but all 3 are a prerequisite for Israel’s furniture making classes. Israel lives in Spain and has been making furniture and teaching hand tool woodworking classes for the last 7 years. His goal is to work precise but fast and he wants to pass the same skill set onto students. Israel will teach his way of woodworking, but also allow students to explore so that they can learn what works for them. This class is unique in that it will have just 2-4 students in it; there will lots of time available for students to receive feedback and ask questions. There will be homework assignments to practice the content of each session in order to get work done before the next one. Class time will rotate between live demos and students doing work at their kitchen counter or workbench. Plan to have a place to put your laptop to film yourself at your work station as your instructor will offer feedback as you work. Students must supply their own tools and wood; a fully supply list with instructions will be emailed. This class will be hosted online via Microsoft Teams, the class will be recorded, students will have access to the class for 48 hours after the class ends. Class time is Mon and Wed 9am-12 pm PST. Enrollment deadline is 8 days prior to class start.
