In this online class, you will learn how to make a desktop kumiko lamp. Kumiko is an intricate Japanese pattern work with wood. Whether you’re a beginner, hobbyist, or pro, this class is a great introduction to kumiko and incorporating it into a project. We will start with making the popular asa-no-ha pattern and some other decorative pieces. Then we will make some frames, the base, and wire the lamp. We will go through each step of the process and in every session, there will be 10-15 minutes of demo and then time for students to perform the new skill while in session. No prerequisites. Supply kits will be shipped to you which include all the needed materials (please make sure your shipping address is correct when enrolling). Each student will also need to provide their own set of tools and lamp hardware. A detailed supply list is available upon request (inquire with email@example.com) and will be emailed prior to class. Please enroll at least 8 days prior to the class date to ensure your supplies arrive in time. This course is instructed online via Microsoft Team (a video conferencing tool). All live sessions will be recorded and available for 48 hours after the class. This class will be capped at 8 students to ensure everyone gets quality feedback on their work. Plan to have a place for your laptop to film yourself as you work. Class times are PST.
