Learn essential techniques for jewelry making while incorporating the color and sparkle of stones without using a torch! In this class we’ll focus on cold connections instead of solder. You will learn the basics of sawing, piercing, riveting and texturing as well as designing for capturing cabochon stones with tab settings. (If you have more experience in basic metal techniques, this stone setting is a great addition to your repertoire as well as practicing your riveting) Although the class focuses on setting cabochons, this technique can also be used to capture materials that are heat sensitive as well as enameled elements and other found objects. Prerequisite: None.

*Students will pick up a supply kit from Pratt prior to the first class. Students will need to provide their own handtools based on a shopping list provided (this includes common jewelry tools such as a saw, files, etc. Students receiving Tuition Assistance may request to borrow a tool kit from Pratt. Please register at least one week prior to the class start date to have time for getting tools and supply kits.
