Treat yourself to a new creative skill! In this two-week fundamentals workshop, you will learn and practice basic sawing and piercing skills that can become the foundation for more complex jewelry/metals projects in the future. Through interactive class discussions/demos you will become familiar with sawing, piercing and filing skills that are essential for any new metalsmith.

Once basic sawing skills are mastered using a jeweler’s saw, you will saw out more complex shapes to create your own jewelry designs. You will learn to file edges smooth, how to sand and polish finished pieces. You can expect to leave the class with several samples, a pair of earrings and a pendant. Brass will be included in the class supply kits, but suggestions will be provided for students who prefer to work in sterling silver. Prerequisite: None. Supply Fee: $20.

*Students will pick up a supply kit from Pratt prior to the first class. Students will need to provide their own hand tools based on a shopping list provided (this includes common jewelry tools such as a saw, files, etc). Students receiving Tuition Assistance may request to borrow a tool kit from Pratt. Please register at least one week prior to the class start date to have time for getting tools and supply kits.
