Learn how to make a one-of-a-kind piece of handwoven jewelry using reclaimed, reusable, and recycled plastics to teach the importance of rethinking how to use every day (and often thrown away) materials in a creative way. You will master two basic& universal weaving techniques to create a pendant: checkerboard weaving and straight twining. This class also connects indigenous perspectives about sacred traditional basket weaving materials, and innovative use of non-traditional materials in an era of climate change. Prerequisite: None.
*Students will pick up a supply kit from Pratt prior to the first class. Students will need to provide their own hand tools based on a shopping list provided (this includes common jewelry tools). Students receiving Tuition Assistance may request to borrow a tool kit from Pratt. Please register at least one week prior to the class start date to have time for getting tools and supply kits.
