Instructor: Annie Johnston

Designed for beginners and those needing a refresher, this class introduces students to the fundamentals of metalworking. Through demonstrations, individualized instruction, and plenty of practice, you will develop basic skills in sawing, filing, riveting, texturing, and polishing as well as in the safe use of tools and studio set up. Projects include a wire link bracelet, findings like ear wires and an S clasp, earrings and a pendant. You’ll also learn how to incorporate different textures and finishes into your pieces, and will have the opportunity to create a design that incorporates all of your freshly learned skills.

Each online class session will feature live demonstrations, pre-recorded reference videos and plenty of supervised work time. It is suggested that students continue to work on their projects outside of class, and there will be an opportunity to consult the instructor between sessions. The skills introduced in this class can be safely practiced almost anywhere, and also provide a solid foundation for future in-studio classes.
