Immortalize your furry (or scaly or feathery) friend while learning the basics of etching.  At the end of this two day weekend workshop, you will have a working knowledge of how to line etch on a copper plate and print from it and come away with a 6” x 6” portrait of your pet or any animal that you fancy.  Day one will be choosing an image, preparing your plate, transferring the outline of your image onto the plate, making your marks in the hard ground and then, time permitting, etching your plate. For people who don’t feel finished making marks by the end of class time, you may take it home to work on and we will get your plate into the acid first thing on the second day.  The second day will be devoted to preparing your paper, inking and printing your etched plate. Time permitting, we may be able to try a few alternative methods for adding color such as chine collé and we can certainly go over how to add color at home after printing using watercolor or gouache if desired. Prerequisite: None
