In this online class, you will learn how to create a kumiko ornament. Kumiko is the Japanese technique of assembling wooden pieces into patterns. We will create the popular asa-no-ha pattern within a hexagonal grid. We’ll also be working with epoxy to add color and additional visual aspects. At the end of the course, you will have a kumiko ornament of your own. This course is instructed online, using Microsoft Teams (a video conferencing tool). All live sessions will be recorded and available for 48 hours after the class is completed. Supply kits will be shipped to students, please make sure your shipping address is correct while enrolling for the class. In person pick up is not possible. Must enroll 8 days prior to class to allow time for shipping. Each student will also need to provide their own set of tools. A detailed supply list is available upon request (inquire with Wood Studio Manager, bmcgarry@pratt.org) and will be emailed prior to class. This class will be maxed out at 8 people to allow for quality feedback during everyone's work sessions. Plan to have a place to put your laptop to film yourself as you work. Class times are PST.
