Create small sculptural structures and jewelry elements using techniques that are borrowed from fiber traditions. Using limited tools and easily accessible materials, you can make parts and pieces that are strong, flexible, and lightweight. This workshop focuses on imparting basic processes that can be expanded upon or created as multiples to build more complex constructions. All you need is a table to work at, some wire, and a few simple hand tools.

Each online class session will feature a combination of live demonstrations, pre-recorded reference videos and plenty of supervised work time. It is suggested that students continue to work on their projects outside of class, and there will be an opportunity to consult the instructor during office hours to be scheduled between sessions. The skills introduced in this class can be practiced almost anywhere, and will also provide a foundation for future in-studio classes in this genre.

Prerequisite: None. Supply Fee: $25.

*Students will pick up a supply kit from Pratt prior to the first class. Students will need to provide their own hand tools based on a tool list provided (namely needle nose pliers with cutters); additional, optional items could include other pliers, a hammer and hammering surface, a bench pin, or other metalsmithing tools). Students receiving Tuition Assistance may request to borrow a tool kit from Pratt.
