Students will learn how to design functional and sculptural work using joinery as a driver. They will learn and practice known blacksmithing techniques that have been altered to create joinery that is unique. We will explore joinery styles from different mediums and cultures such as Japanese wood joinery. The focus will be on creativity and structure with a discussion of how to apply the ideas to future work.
