Instructor: Katherine McDevitt

Katherine McDevitt has resided in Mexico since 1977 pursuing and teaching her love of stone carving. Come spend the week immersed in the creative process of transforming stone. This class will introduce the student to the subtractive process. You will explore types of forms that are suitable for the medium, and examine works by sculptors such as Arp, Brancusi, Moore, Noguchi, as well as ancient sculpture. Each student will design their own sculpture using plastilene or styrofoam to make a maquette for the stone. Students will then learn to transfer their model onto the stone, and with the use of hand tools, shape the material. Students should expect to finish their carving by the end of the course. This class is open to all levels, but no experience is necessary. Prerequsite : none
