Instructor: Rachel David

A blacksmith inherently distorts metal, it is the nature of the craft. In this class we will focus on stretching bending and persuading steel on its most difficult planes to look elegant, easy and unforced, despite the process. We will develop complex shapes and, looking at them as elements of sculpture, we will calculate material needs and the tool making to accomplish the forms cleanly and precisely. Students will leave with a better sense for how to visualize the movement qualities of hot steel and make tooling to accomplish their visions. Prerequisite : Continuing Blacksmithing or equivalent Supply fee : none
